Homemade Baking Mix

Its 11pm and you have a hankering for pancakes, waffles, biscuits, coffeecake, whatever, and you are out of Bisqui....your favorite baking mix.
What to do??? All in a tizzy?
Well, fret no more, my friends.
Noshings is here to save the day!

What you'll need:

6 c. all purpose flour
3 Tbs. baking powder (make sure its fresh and hasn't been in your cabinet since your teenage son was in diapers)
1 Tb. baking soda
1 Tb. salt
3 Tbs. sugar

Sift all these ingredients together and hopefully you have a Kitchen Aid...if not, a handmixer will do, it will just wear your arms out a bit.

Put your sifted ingredients in the mixer bowl and add:

1 c. vegetable shortening (butter-flavor will work here, as well)

With the whisk attachment, start slowly, increasing speed a bit as the shortening incorporates into the flour.
You may have to stop the mixer and scrape off the whisk and sides once or twice.
But, in the end, you should have a powdery mixer with no lumps.
I like to keep this in a large tupperware container in the frig.
Use it just like you would Bisqui....your favorite baking mix!

ooh i'll have to try this!! I HATE the prepackaged taste of Bisquick but I could use this INSTEAD and still use the recipes for it! thanks!

Oh thank you!! I like using Bisquick, but the chemically taste puts me off. Would this work with butter instead of shortening?
